The Extraordinary CULT Commmitee meeting will take place in Strasbourg on Monday 11 March 2024, 19.00 - 20.00 in meeting room: WEISS (N1.3). The Extraordinary CULT Commmitee will be direclty followed by a Joint BUDG-CULT meeting, 20.00 - 21.00 in the same meeting room.

Following the adoption of the CULT own-initiative report on The System of European Schools: State of Play, Challenges and Perspectives, the Committee held an exchange of views on the European Schools system with institutional representatives as well as stakeholders on February 13. A strong focus was on present challenges as well as potential reform proposals to make the system fit for the future.

As one of the oldest forms of discrimination, Antisemitism is unfortunately experiencing a rise in European societies today. Through the lens of one of it's core competences, the CULT Committee addressed this issue by means of an exchange of views on Antisemitism in the educational sphere as one of the main agenda points of the Committee meeting of February 13.

On 13 February, the CULT Committee held an exchange of views on recent developments in the EU's Cultural Diplomacy - a combination of actions and policies in various policy fields to strengthen the external governance of the EU as a major player in the cultural and creative sectors.

The Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) voted on the provisional agreement reached with the Council on the proposal for a Regulation establishing a common framework for media services in the internal market (“European Media Freedom Act”, Rapporteur: Sabine Verheyen, EPP Group) on 24 January 2024. Following the vote in Committee, the provisional agreement will be endorsed by the Plenary in March 2024.

On 24 January, Mr Pierre-Yves Jeholet (Minister-President of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation); Ms Caroline Désir (Minister of Education of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation) and Ms Françoise Bertieaux (Minister for Higher Education, Scientific Research, University Hospitals, Youth Assistance, Houses of Justice, Youth and Promotion of Brussels) presented the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the area of Culture and Education in the CULT Committee.
