A new CULT own-initiative report on "European historical consciousness" (Rapporteur: Niyazi Kizilyürek) examines ways and means to deal with Europe’s complex, conflict-ridden and contested past.

On 19 September 2023 the Committee on Culture and Education presented draft implementation reports of the following programmes: Erasmus+ Programme 2021-2027, Creative Europe Programme 2021-2027, European Solidarity Corps programme 2021-2027 and Citizens, Equality, Rights Values programme 2021-2027 (citizens' engagement and participation).

The Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) voted on the draft report on the proposal for a Regulation establishing a common framework for media services in the internal market (“European Media Freedom Act”) and amending the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD, Directive 2010/13/EU) on 7 September (Rapporteur: Ms Sabine Verheyen, EPP Group).

On 7 September, Ione Belarra Urteaga (acting Minister for Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda), Pilar Alegría Continente (acting Minister of Education and Vocational Training), Joan Subirats Humet (acting Minister for Universities) and Miquel Iceta Llorens (acting Minister of Culture and Sport) presented the priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the area of Culture and Education in the CULT Committee.

On 5 September 2023, Parliament held a hearing with Iliana Ivanova as the commissioner-designate for innovation, research, culture, education and youth.
