The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will hold in its meeting of 13 July 2020 an exchange of views with Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice who will present the Commission evaluation report on the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (Article 97(1) GDPR) adopted on 24 June 2020. The report presents a first evaluation of the implementation of the GDPR after two years of its application.

On 6 July 2020 LIBE Members exchanged views concerning the Greek/Turkish border and respect for fundamental rights with Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Michalis Chrisochoidis, Minister of Citizen protection (Greece), Notis Mitarachi, Minister of Migration and Asylum (Greece) and with Fabrice Leggeri, Executive Director Frontex and Minos Mouzourakis, Legal Officer at Refugee Support Aegean (RSA).

LIBE Committee held an exchange of views on the establishment of an EU Mechanism on Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights (DRF) on 29 June which took place against the background of the preparation of a new LIBE legislative initiative (Rapporteur Michal Simecka) on the DRF Mechanism, updating Parliament's position of 2016 and reacting to the Commission's Communication from July 2019.

On 23 June LIBE Members had an exchange of views with Mr Manuel Navarrete, Head of the European Counter Terrorism Centre of Europol on the EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report (TE-SAT) 2020. It provides facts and figures on terrorism in the EU and identifies trends in the crime area. The draft opinion on Artificial intelligence: questions of interpretation and application of international law in so far as the EU is affected, was presented by the Rapporteur, Patryk Jaki.

In an interview, rapporteur Laura Ferrara explains how the limits of the European asylum system were tested following the influx of migrants, and how new reforms aim to improve procedures while increasing rights.

In the LIBE Committee meeting on 15 June, which took place via visioconference, Members held an exchange of views on the situation in the Central Mediterranean Route. Several speakers were invited to this debate, namely representatives of DG HOME of the European Commission, the External Action Service, Frontex, UNHCR, IOM, the IRINI CSDP mission and Sea Eye.

In the LIBE Committee meeting on 15 June, Members held a an exchange of views with Věra Jourová, Vice-President for Values and Transparency. Ms Jourová presented the main elements included in the Communication on tackling COVID-19 disinformation: getting the facts right, published on 10 June, and will answer questions on issues of transparency, rule of law and non-discrimination as well as on the next steps as regards the future Strategy on the Charter on Fundamental Rights.
