The number of farms in EU27 declined by about 32% between 2003 and 2016. The EU might lose an additional 6.4 million farms by 2040, a decrease which poses an existential challenge to the multifunctional European farming model, says AGRI chair Norbert Lins in the latest MH editorial. The EU farming model is key to transition to a sustainable food system that ensures food security while having a neutral or positive environmental impact.

INGE commissioned a paper to analyse the defensive tactics used outside the EU which highlights the best practices and suggests how these could be translated to the EU reality.
