Workshops werden von den Fachabteilungen organisiert und ermöglichen den Mitgliedern, Fragen an Sachverständige zu Aspekten im Zusammenhang mit der parlamentarischen Tätigkeit oder mit aktuellen Themen zu richten und sich mit ihnen auszutauschen. Sie sind nicht zwangsläufig öffentlich, können aber im Rahmen von Ausschusssitzungen stattfinden.

Gender equality - gender gap

One of the strategy’s key areas of the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 is the promotion of gender balance in ICT studies and careers. The ITRE Committee organised a debate on how to advance gender equality in the EU, break gender stereotypes in STEM careers, empower a gender-balanced entrepreneurships, and more generally, on the role of women as researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in the digital, ICT and artificial intelligence sector.

The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) is the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption body. The EU became an observer to GRECO in 2019. The objective of this workshop is to exchange views on the EU’s potential full membership of GRECO in the future. Speakers from GRECO, the Commission, the Council, the Parliament and the civil society will engage in a lively discussion and the exchange of views.

This workshop will explore possible conclusions and recommendations on the DSA and DMA, and gather factual evidence on the expected effects of the regulation of online intermediaries. The discussions of the workshop will feed into the DSA and the DMA reports of the IMCO committee, setting out the Parliament’s political response. On 26 May 2021, the Policy Department for Citizens Rights and Constitutional Affairs will organise a workshop on "Mainstreaming children's rights in the EU legislation under the Better Regulation Agenda" for the JURI Committee, in the presence of the EP Coordinator for Children's Rights, Ms Ewa Kopacz.

This workshop will focus on the problem of missing trader fraud and carousel fraud. Experts will give an overview of the extent of the problem and the impact of missing trader fraud on the EU budget. Questions on how to improve the current VAT system will be answered and speakers of different institutions will join and give potential solutions and recommendations on how to fight missing trader fraud.

Equal access to medicine and therapies

The Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe adopted by the EC on 25/11/2020 is based on legislative and non-legislative action. It will create a future proof regulatory framework and support the industry in promoting research and technologies that actually reach patients. It will also take into account the weaknesses exposed by the coronavirus pandemic. In this context, the ENVI Health Working Group will bring together different external experts for exchanges of views.

To achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the EU has adopted a more ambitious EU-wide, economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 55% by 2030 compared to 1990. Among the proposals for revisions of relevant legislative measures to deliver on the increased climate ambition is the review of Emissions Trading System (ETS) and its extension to the transport sectors. The workshop should prepare for the upcoming legislative package of proposals in June 2021.

What progress has been made to include human rights considerations in the preparation and organisation of large sports events? How can the EU and its Member States promote further steps towards a rights based approach to large sporting competitions?

On Tuesday 25 May 2021 Policy Department C, at the request of the FEMM Committee, organised a Workshop entitled: “Three years after #Metoo - what needs to be done? A call for reforms to avoid sexual harassment in EU institutions”.

On 25 May ANIT organised a workshop with the Policy Department B on Animal Welfare during transport. 4 experts presented their reports on the following subjects: Particular welfare needs in animal transport: unweaned animals and pregnant animals, Particular welfare needs in animal transport: aquatic animals, Welfare on sea vessels and criteria for approval of vessel authorisation and practices of animal welfare during transport in the third countries.
