On 2 December 2020, 16.45 – 17.45, Athanasios Orphanides presented the study on "Options for the ECB’s Monetary Policy Strategy Review" to ECON Members. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.
On 2 December 2020 from 13:45 to 15:45 the ECON Committee organised a public hearing on "Improving the Accountability of the European Central Bank".
On Monday 7 December 2020 from 11.00 to 13.00, the Committees on Economic and Monetary Affairs and on Employment and Social Affairs will hold Economic Dialogue on the 2021 European Semester with Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President for An Economy that Works for People, Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economy and Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights.
On Wednesday, 2 December 2020, 17.45 – 18.45, the ESMA Chair will present in ECON the "Fast Track Peer Review Report – Wirecard".
The spread of the COVID-19 virus represents a dramatic risk for the health and lives of our citizens but will also lead to unprecedented shocks for the economy and employment in Europe. The COVID-19 outbreak requires rapid responses from Member States and immediate and innovative joint action of the European institutions and Member States to counter another deep and protracted economic crisis in the aftermath of the health pandemic.
On 19 November, from 09:00 to 11:00, the ECON Committee held a Monetary Dialogue with the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde. This was the fourth Monetary Dialogue in 2020.

On Monday 9 November, from 17.45 to 18.30, ECON held a public hearing with Aurel Schubert, candidate proposed by Council for the position of Chairperson of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB), created by Decision 235/2008/EC.
The term of Yves Mersch, Member of the Executive Board of the ECB, ends on 14 December 2020. In accordance with Article 283 TFEU the European Council has consulted Parliament on the Council recommendation to appoint Frank Elderson as a member of the Executive Board of the ECB.
