EPRS online event on 6 December
Policy Roundtables and Book Talks EPRS

Together with policy-makers, experts and financial market operators, we will discuss the importance of the euro in the global economy by looking at its role as a reserve currency and its importance for exporters and financial market operators. The panel will also consider what initiatives can be taken to strengthen the role of the euro and how it can help to expand the EU's strategic autonomy and influence in the world.

Policy Roundtables and Book Talks EPRS

Lord Plumb died back in April 2022. This roundtable, first of a new EPRS series, will devote to him as a British Conservative MEP and President of the European Parliament from 1987 to 1989, bringing together an eminent historian, a former MEP and a former Secretary-General of the European Parliament who will recollect their working experiences with former President Plumb. The event will be open by a video-message from current EP President, Roberta Metsola.

The roundtable will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on science advice in policy-making and discuss lessons learnt from COVID-19 for science advice in policy-making under stress. In this dimension, speakers will focus on essential questions of the use of science advice for complex political decision preparation and decision-making under the conditions of uncertainty.

Høringer IMCO

On 8 December, IMCO will hold a public hearing to follow up on Parliament’s motion for a resolution on the right to repair, adopted in April 2022. The aim of the hearing is to feed into the discussion related to the upcoming Commission proposal on the right to repair and more specifically, to look at how consumer rights and guarantees can be strengthened.

This roundtable is the EPRS annual flagship on key takeaways from 2022. Distinguished Think Tankers will discuss issues such as Russia's war on Ukraine, geopolitical shifts, energy crisis, macroeconomic situation, climate and other topics that made 2022 'the year that shook the world'.
